Chefchaouen's blue-washed houses on the hillside

The blue city of the Rif

Chefchaouen

A relaxed mountain town of blue-washed lanes and hillside views in northern Morocco.

Chefchaouen sits in the Rif Mountains and is known for the blue-washed walls of its medina. It is slower and calmer than Morocco's big cities, which makes it a welcome change of pace.

It can be a day trip from Fez or a night in the mountains, and it pairs well with the imperial cities.
